Alex was a son, a brother, a grandson, an uncle, a friend, a cousin and a human being that battled an addiction. Heroin told him, “I can make you feel alright, I can make you feel worthy, I can make you feel normal, I can make you feel loved, I can make you feel nothing and I can make you feel like everything is okay." What it didn’t tell him was how it would devastate all those around him and tear him apart, or how it would destroy who he was and who he could be. Or how it would take and take and take, until it took his life.
His heart was as big as his beard, and his smile and laugh would light up a room. There was no question where Alex’s heart was – he was real. For all that knew him, they will smile when they think of him. His jokes, his long stories, and his goofy dances were all part of who he was. He never met a stranger. He was smart beyond his years but didn’t realize his full potential. He could have been or done anything that he set his mind to.
Losing Alex has broken our hearts and our lives will never be the same without him, but we find comfort in knowing that he is finally at peace with his struggle.
Alex leaves behind his mom and stepdad, Joette and Daryl Crews, his dad, Jeff Johnson, his sisters Amanda Harris (husband David) and Lydia Johnson, his brothers Austin Crews, Gavin Crews and Lane Johnson, his grandparents, Patricia Dodd and Betty and Vernon Johnson, his niece, Andi Harris, his fiancee, Cheyenne Watts, his aunts and uncle, Tammy Dodd, April and Scotty Puckett, his cousins, Brandon Dodd and Lauren Gonzales (husband Joey).
