Janice Rebecca Langdon Privette, 80, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 2, 2019. She is known for her strong faith and surrounding herself with family and her many great friends. She had a zest for life and love of laughter that was contagious to the people around her. Her children believe her greatest accomplishment was living an intentional life that showed everyone the heart of Jesus.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Willis Earnest Privette, her brother Willie Edward Langdon, and her grandson William Allan Newton, II.
Born in Four Oaks to Willie Horace and Ophelia Langdon, Janice was the eldest of five children. She grew up knowing Johnston County farm life and the love of an extended family of uncles, aunts, and cousins. Janice graduated from Four Oaks High School in 1956 and then graduated from Hardbarger Business College. She worked many years as an Executive Secretary with the NC Restaurant Association before joining her husband in running his own mechanic shops, first in Raleigh and then in Clayton.
Upon Willis’s retirement, Janice returned working in the public sector serving others with the Johnston County Public School Systems until her retirement in 2014. She received recognition for her volunteer services and contributions to Cleveland Middle School, Clayton Middle School, Clayton High School, and the Johnston County Board of Education.
Janice loved all her family, but especially her children. She was actively involved in all their endeavors, supporting and chaperoning their many activities. She then continued her encouragement with her grandchildren supporting and cheering them in sports, music, military, and a variety of school and church performances.
She was an active member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church for over 50 years. She served in many capacities throughout the years, but two of her favorites included Vacation Bible School Director and Sunday School Teacher. She especially enjoyed these past years teaching the Mary-Martha Sunday class and socializing with the LLL (Live Long and Love It) group on trips and special events while serving and praising her Lord Jesus Christ.
Janice is survived by three sisters, Katherine Moore of Four Oaks, Judy Johnson of Florence, SC, and Frances Benson of Four Oaks; sister-in-law Judy Langdon of Four Oaks; three children, Teresa Newton and husband Bill of Charlotte, Rona Privette-Frost and husband Mark, Kristi Lynn Carpenter and husband Jimi, all of Clayton; six grandchildren, Tayler Newton, Brittany Frost, Jonathan Beeker, Stephen Carpenter, Dilahna Frost, and Rebecca Carpenter; and one great grandchild, Cameron Frost.
