Mrs. Florence Hazel Batten Wolicki, 89, of Garner, NC, died Saturday, May 28, 2016, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh with her grandson, Shane, at her side. Hazel was born December 25, 1926, in Johnston County, daughter of the late Alonzo and Mary Hicks Batten. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Joseph Wolicki, and five siblings, Cournel Batten, Ruth Batten Hess, Billy Batten, Steven Batten, and Jimmy Batten.
Hazel is survived by two sons, Stanley Joseph Wolicki, Jr. and wife Angelyn “Lyn” Krauss of Black Mountain, NC, and Steven Wolicki and wife Debbie of Garner, a sister Mary Batten Bayne, a brother Coy Batten and wife Pattie, all of Garner, three grandchildren - Katie Wolicki Figueiras, Alex Wolicki, and Shane Wolicki, and many other relatives and friends that loved her very much.
Hazel was always a spirited person, loving and enjoying her family and friends as often as possible. She loved to garden, run after her grandkids, attend Mass at St. Mary’s Church, and engage in all the activities at the Garner Senior Center. She loved to birdwatch and cook for her family and friends. Hazel’s specialties were vegetable soup, hole in ones, arroz con pollo, squash and onions, and her unique version of chex mix. Hazel enjoyed taking and looking at photos, as long as they contained the people she loved. Her house was decorated with those photos, flowers, cardinals, giraffes, angels, and just a “few” pictures of Tom Selleck. Hazel lived a full life; she loved everyone and was loved by all.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, June 2, 2016, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton, NC.
