Mr. George Henry Payden son of the late Thomas Henry and Lula Mae Payden was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 27th, 2023. George was born on January 1, 1953, in Spartanburg, South Carolina. In George’s early years he and his family moved from South Carolina to Washington DC, where he attended DC public schools.
Professionally, George was a passionate long distance truck driver. He enjoyed the open road and the relationships he established along the way. He drove for Alberti Moving & Storage and Murray's Steakhouse where he received numerous awards and accolades prior to retirement in 2009.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was a big sports fan, specifically, boxing and football. George’s favorite team was the Washington Redskins now known as the Washington Commanders. However, playing cards was his pass time. Bid Whisk, Tunk, and Poker were his favorites and always challenged anyone who dared to say they were the best.
His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his devoted wife, Deborah Miller Payden. His ex-wife Vanessa Payden and his children Veron Payden and Revarre Payden. Two stepdaughters Audra (Michael) Bowman, and Christine (Jeffery) Standfield. Siblings, Virgina Ann Layton, Pauline (Easton) Jones, Magaline (Louis) Stewart, Willie Earl (Melissa) Payden and JoAnn Payden. Siblings preceded in death, Richard Layton, Earnest Layton and Thomasine Ballew. Also blessed with 12 grandchildren, 2 brother in-laws Robert Miller, Jr., and Michael Miller, 1 aunt, Berniece Mallory, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday May 20, 2023, at Wiseman Funeral Home and Chapel located at 7529 Old Alexandria Ferry Road, Clinton, M.D. 20735 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
