Daryl Glen Gaskins, 53, of Clayton passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023. He was born in Massachusetts to Sammy and Cindy Gaskins on April 22, 1970. He grew up in New Bern, NC and graduated from North Carolina State University. Daryl and Claire met in college in 1992 and were later married on May 17, 1997 in Midlothian, Virginia. For 3 years after being married they lived in Greenville, NC and then moved to Clayton where they lived most of their life together raising their beautiful daughters Lillie and Maggie.
Daryl began his career out of college with Hertz Equipment Rental in 1995. He worked there for 21 years moving up through the company serving in various management roles. Daryl and his family spent two years in Dubai, UAE while he served as General Mgr. of the Middle East and North Africa. He left Hertz in 2016 and was the CEO at ADCO Holdings Inc., Blu Site Solutions, headquartered out of Germany, until Jan. 2020. At which time, he joined United Rentals as District Mgr. in Fluid Solutions and later promoted to Region Fleet Director.
Daryl was extremely hard working with an incredibly strong work ethic, which allowed him to put himself through college and provide a wonderful life for his wife and daughters. He loved more than anything being with his family and his girls who were his treasures. Daryl enjoyed life and all the experiences which came with it working and “chilling”; traveling with family and friends; golfing with friends and his daughters, boating with family in Roper, NCSU football and basketball games, and last but not least watching his daughter play soccer. He was the steady rock of their family and always had a calming effect to those around him and good advice to share. Daryl was deeply loved by all and he made a lasting impact on those who met him.
Whenever asked how he was doing, Daryl would always respond, “living the dream”. He believed the words of Abraham Lincoln, “that in the end, it’s not the years in the life, it’s the life in the years.”
Daryl is preceded in death by his grandparents, Bernard and Esther Gaskins and grandfather, Fred Kiser.
He is survived by his wife, Claire Wood Gaskins; daughters, Lillie and Maggie; his brother, Brent Gaskins and wife Rene, nephew Noah; parents, Sammy and Cindy Gaskins; grandmother, Jean Kiser; sister in law, Ashley Watts and nephews Jack, Davis, and Henry.
The family would like to thank all the friends for reaching out with support during this difficult and unexpected time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Horne Memorial United Methodist Church.
We will remember and celebrate Daryl’s life and love of others on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 1:00pm at Horne Memorial United Methodist Church of Clayton, NC. The family will receive guests in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.
