Christopher Michael Waters – Chris – was born on April 29, 1986, in Seoul, Korea. He passed away on June 13, 2024, at the age of 38. His loss will be mourned by his family and friends, all of whom will remember him fondly.
Chris had an amazingly clever wit and charm. He never fully appreciated how much the rest of us enjoyed his use of those skills when we were together. But in almost every conversation he would offer some quip or observation which left the rest of the room chuckling. His affectionate smile and his humor will be missed.
In his youth, Chris was an outstanding soccer player. He was fleet afoot and loved the game. He graduated from Alma College and went on to serve in the Air Force where he excelled as a Special Forces JTAC – Joint Terminal Attack Controller. He served in combat in Afghanistan and upon his return the rest of us could truly realize that War is indeed Hell. His life after serving his country was his toughest challenge. He gave every ounce of energy to overcome his demons but sadly, that was the only fight he lost. His courage and dedication should as a benchmark by which all others can measure themselves.
Chris is survived by his parents, two brothers and a sister, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a niece. There will be a special place in all our hearts where his memory will be forever stored.
Those wishing to memorialize Chris may make a contribution by going to FrontlineHealingFoundation.org and pressing the “Donate Now” button. This is an organization which provides financial and other aid to veterans who cannot otherwise afford the treatment they need to address the trauma of war.
Chris’s remains will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery alongside the many veterans who served before him. Services will be private.
And now, we know that Chris is with the Lord and has finally found the peace which eluded him for so long. In remembrance, we ask three things: First, pray for Chris’ soul. Second, remember all those who served our country and realize there is no way to truly understand or thank them for their sacrifice. And finally, take a moment to reach out to those who are important in your life remind them of your love. We think that would make Chris happy.
