I have many fond memories spent with my grandmother. Opening gifts at her house for holidays and spending the night at her house as a child. 

Two memories in particular  make me smile and I would like to share. 

One was being a middle school aged girl during the 1980s and wanting a perm. Having a grandmother with a salon in her house was the perfect answer. Looking back now it probably wasn’t a great idea to get a perm (only in the back of a mullet typed hairdo) by one’s grand mother but at the time I was thankful to have my own personal hairstylist. It turned out about how one might imagine! But regardless I had many fun times in her salon chair. 

Another fond memory was when I was pregnant with my second child, Scarlett. I grew up in GA but live in PA and while talking to my grandmom she had concern about me naming my future daughter Scarlett. As she said “living up north and all”. I asked her what she meant and she said “it’s going to remind them of the war” I had to remind her that the Yankees in PA didn’t think about the civil war and Scarlett would be just fine with her name! I got a chuckle out of this but my grandmother was legitimately concerned over my daughter possibly getting bullied by the Yankees over her very southern name (Scarlett lee). 

I viewed my grandmother as an independent woman who lived her life the way she wanted. She cared for me as her grandchild and I hope she knows that she was loved.

Thank you Christine for enriching our lives with your wonderful stories. While i only met you a couple of times, i know you had a big impact on my wife’s life. Jackie was your earth angel and now you can be her guardian angel. Rest in peace with our Lord dear Christine.

i started off as a volunteer to visit a 92 year old lady that lived alone and really wanted company to come visit and have conversations with for she was very lonely.  For over 4 years i did this at least twice a week and over this time we became friends and visits became more frequent.  She told me stories of her mom, dad and her brothers for which she missed them dearly and how she helped raise one of her granddaughters.  She would talk of her life as a beautician and that she believed in God and for the last year she really wanted him to call her home.  She provided me with encouragement when I got hurt and that was the year we knew we were more like family then friends. I'm really going to miss my friend and our visits.  Rest in peace my dear Christine and look over me as one of my guardian angels.
