In his early teen years, Bill was the national rifle champion and went on to be in the ROTC program in high school. After high school, he continued his skills, serving as a rifleman for the US Army until he was honorably discharged in 1964.
Bill’s love for his community and public service continued after his military service. He spent several years working as a police officer in Pomroy, WA, before returning to CA and working as an emergency medical technician. Graduating from the very first EMT class offered in Sacramento, he went on to help create and graduate from the first paramedic program in Sacramento. In his later years, he managed the graveyard shift security team for Jackson Rancheria, retiring in 2011.
Bill liked throwing darts; he played in tournaments and took fourth in a national championship. He especially enjoyed playing pool with his son William, competing locally on several teams and winning many championships. He had great affection for animals and was skilled at training dogs. In 1977, he took his German Shepherd, Easy, to the national super dog championship, earning 82nd out of 200!
In October 1973, Bill married Sandy Bedford, and they enjoyed almost 51 years of marriage before he passed away.
Remaining to cherish Bill’s memory are his wife, three children, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren they were blessed with.
Preceding Bill in death are two children, Julie and William.
