Bud's tribute to Sheri read at The Memorial Service August 6, 2016
We met in Junior High but didn't really notice each other much.. Just a couple of nerds (or at least I was). We went on to different High Schools but met again through a mutual friend. My best friend through Jr. High and High School, and my Best Man at our wedding (Thanks Norm! I never told you that!) One date was all it took and I just couldn't get her our of my mind. This girl with the really long brown shiny hair down to her butt. Besides that, she was the only one that would go on a second date. After a date we usually just went back to her house and sat in the car out front and talked. We didn't have cell phones in those days, so sometimes when it got too late my Dad would actually drive over and flash his lights which meant it was time to come home. I would secretly take her hair ribbons home just so I could still smell her when she wasn't around. We got married about a year and a half after graduation, January 11, 1975. We spent our Honeymoon in Santa Cruz at the Dream Inn. I was still working at McDonalds, but she had gotten a job with the state and we could finally afford a mobile home. She was a lot mere that just a wife. She was my Best Friend and the Light of My Life. We did absolutely everything together. Camping, Hiking, Bowling, Home Improvements, etc... etc .. etc... She loved Lighthouses. I think we visited everyone of them on the West Coast. She loved taking RV trips and hiking all over the places we visited. After retirement we got jobs as campground hosts at our favorite campgrounds in Santa Cruz.. We also got into this game called Geocaching which she really loved to play. It took us lots of places and she couldn't wait to go hiking or kayaking to find the next one. With a Garmin in her hand she was liked the Energizer Bunny. She just kept going and going. She was SO good at finding them that we started calling her Eagle Eye. Some would say she had a hard shell candy personality on the outside, but once you got to know her she was very soft kind and caring on the inside. She was a wonderful Mother to our 2 sons (Tim and Brian) But her greatest pride and joy was being Nana to our 2 Grandsons (Harrison and Hunter) Her greatest fear was that she would not be able to see them grow up. We cruised Hawaii for our 30th anniversary and had plans to cruise the Panama Canal last year for our 40th but the chemo got in the way. We both believed right up to the end that we could just do it next year or maybe the one after that. We were looking forward to our 50th.. Maybe she wasn't perfect - but she was perfect for me. I couldn't have made it this far without her and I can't imagine a life without her. Her ashes will be scattered in Monterey about a mile of the coast of Santa Cruz. At this time I would like to play a music video "Would you go with me?" by Josh Turner this video really sums it all up.
