Wayne was born in 1939 in Palestine, TX. He graduated from California Baptist College in 1963 and Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1971.
At Cal Baptist, Wayne met his bride, Nancy Carrier. The two spent their 54-year-long marriage in ministry to the following churches: Harvard Terrace Baptist Church, Fresno, CA; Calvary Baptist Church, Mineral Wells, TX; Stine Road Baptist Church, Bakersfield, CA; First Southern Baptist Church, Lompoc, CA; and Fair Oaks Baptist Church, Fair Oaks, CA. Wayne officially retired from full-time ministry in 2018 after serving as Director of Missions for the Mother Lode Association.
Wayne loved leading worship, directing choirs for all ages, developing and leading handbell choirs, working with youth, teaching Bible studies, leading mission trips, and serving as a loving and supportive pastor to countless people.
He was honored several times for his many years of faithful service by receiving such awards as Alumnus of the Year (1993) from California Baptist University, the Duane Barrett Lifetime Achievement Award (2008) from the Fellowship of Church Musicians’ Conference, the Distinguished Service in Christian Ministry Award (2019) from California Baptist University, and the Heritage Award (2019) from the California Baptist Historical Society.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Nancy; his son, Randy, and his wife, Kerry, and their children, Tyler, Ryan, and Cameron; his son, Geoff, his partner, Elizabeth Goetz, and his daughters, Lizzie and Julia; his son Jonathan, and his husband, Scott Bradley; his sister, Gay McNeil and her husband, Bill, and their daughter, Katie; his sister, Charlotte Shields, and her husband, Stanley, and their daughter, Jessica Hogue, and Jessica’s husband, Paul, and son, Travis.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, March 28th, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Fair Oaks (FBCFO). 4401 San Juan Ave, Fair Oaks, CA. 916-966-2295.
