Doris A. Gillespie, 96, of Circleville Ohio passed away peacefully on June 13 at Lakes of Monclova Memory Care facility. She was born February 28, 1928 in Charleston, West Virginia, the daughter of Claude and Agnes (Shropshire) Campbell. She was preceded in death by her husband David, her parents, her brother Robert (Bobby) and her sister Mary Lou (Pete).
Doris graduated from Charleston High School and then the University of Charleston with a degree in Secondary Education. She completed her master's degree in educational counseling at Marshall University. Doris started her educational career teaching 7th grade geography and PE at Chamberlin School. She married David B. Gillespie on June 2, 1951. They enjoyed over 51 years of a loving and supportive marriage. They lived in Kanawha City, West Virginia, from 1951 to 1965 when Dave was transferred to Circleville with Owens Illinois.
She continued her career in education as a guidance counselor at Circleville High School. While there she also took on other rolls- student counsel advisor, In the Know advisor, cheerleading advisor and National Honor Society advisor. Doris and Dave were the first family to host an AFS student, Feyzi Serim, from Istanbul, Turkey. She cherished her time with him, his wife Linda and their two children Rose (Johel) Foneca and Mark Serim. Doris retired from education after 43 years in a career she loved.
Doris was a community minded individual. She was involved in several organizations including Delta Kappa Gamma, Kiwanis Club, Pickaway County Hospice, Friends of the Pickaway County Library, served as an Elder at the First Presbyterian Church, Community Health Care Advisory for Berger Health System and was the Chairperson of the Berger Hospital Gift shop for 20 years.
Doris is survived by her son Glen David (Twila) Gillespie of Sylvania, OH; grandchildren: Blake (Dana) Gillespie of New York City, NY and Alisha Meyer of Sylvania, OH: 2 great grandchildren: Chase and Hunter Meyer, nieces, nephews and beloved friends.

Calling hours will be at the Circleville First Presbyterian Church on Friday, June 21, 10:00 am to 10:45 am with the service at 11:00 am, with the Pastor Nancy Dederer officiating. The graveside service will follow at Forest Cemetery on North Court Street in Circleville.
