My father was a self-made man who valued his duty to his family, his country, and his freedom to follow his way in this world.

When I was a child, my grandfather sent me a letter every single week. He never failed to mail me an encouraging word, an inspirational poem, the lyrics of an uplifting song, pictures of animals, flowers, and nature, or newspaper articles he knew I'd be interested in. 

He gave his family his love and support through out our lives. During his life he worked hard to ensure the next generations of his family had opportunity to pursue happiness and success.

I will always remember my "Gramps" as a wonderful person who made everything that I am and everything I have been able to experience and achieve possible.  I remember now learning how to play 7-card stud with a 2 penny ante-up, falling asleep in the back seat of his pickup truck as he drove me up California, seeing him in the audience at my dance recitals and graduations, playing a 9-hole golf game and betting a nickle on each hole. I remember all of his hats and belt buckles. I remember of all the smiles and warm hugs he gave me every time we saw each other.   

When I have grandchildren of my own, they will each receive a letter in the mail every week. 

He had class, he had style, he was my Gramps and I'll miss him.

In our pain and tears we share a heartache that cannot heal but in our minds we will keep memories no one can steal.  We all can feel your hand in ours and see your loving face.  You haven't gone.  I feel you here, a love I can't replace.  You mean so much to all of us and in our hearts you'll always be.  I hope you can see how precious you were to them, to us, to me.  David

Bill was a spirited, often youthful, and self-made man who was kind and thoughtful.  I had the pleasure of spending time with him fishing, dining, playing cribbage, and chatting with him about his family, grandkids, politics, economics, and/or general visions for the world.  It was especially pleasurable to observe him love Doreen and be a supportive friend to Val or any of us who were in their orbit.  As a WWII veteran, we salute him for his service.  Although I have not seen him in a few years, I think of him often and will always treasure the gift of having known and spent time with him.

He always had a twinkle in his eye and a sense of mischief.  He and my dad shared such a special bond.  I will now miss them both but like to think that they're reunited in that golf course in the sky.

Bill and Doreen always made us feel welcome while visiting family in San Diego. I especially enjoyed our golf games and will remember Bill's generous and caring nature.

From the day my wife Edna and I met Bill and Doreen one fine morning at the Balboa Golf Course in '93, it was the beginning of our very long friendship. Bill immediately impressed me as an intelligent person and a gentleman and over the years I learned a lot by just being around him. I will surelly miss him.
