Carmen Comer, age 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Chula Vista, CA on February 11, 2022. Born 1932 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii to Catalino Palacat and Philipa Tararat Palacat, she graduated from Konawaena High School in 1951. Directly after graduating, she traveled to North Carolina as a nanny for the Krelin family twins at age of 19 where she met and married Jefferson Vance Comer. Varied Naval assignments found them and their two daughters, Paula and Rose Marie, stationed in North Carolina, Virginia and California, to finally retire in Chula Vista. With family always coming first, Carmen only began working at the Miramar Country Store, after learning how to drive and obtaining her driving license, when her daughters were in junior high and high school. While in North Carolina, she worked as a police station dispatcher and later retired from the National Steel and Shipbuilding Company in San Diego where she wrote checks for millions of dollars in Accounts Payable.
As an avid crocheter, Carmen brought joy to all around her, sharing her afghans, silly humor and caring conversation. She was a Mother, a wife, the last surviving Palacat Kupuna known as Auntie to her Ohana in Hawaii, and most importantly, a guardian angel to all she met. She was the strongest of prayer warriors, possessed an elegant spirit and is a beautiful soul that loves Jesus with all her might and being. She is survived by her daughters Paula Hildebrandt of Chula Vista, California and Rose Marie Cowan of Kannapolis, North Carolina, 5 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and countless beloved friends. She was preceded in death by all her siblings and her loving husband Jeff.
Viewing will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Chula Vista from 2 to 4:00 pm on Sunday, March 13th, followed by the service on the same day from 4:00 pm to 6 pm. Burial services will be private for immediate family at the Riverside National Cemetery. Flowers can be sent to Funeraria Del Angel
