Dorothy Marie "Dot" Schuh, a long-time resident of Chowchilla, California, went home to be with the Lord on the 22nd of April, 2024, at the age of 95. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by family and loved ones.
Dot was born on March 11, 1929, in Madera, California to her parents, Francis Russell and Emma Harris. Dot was a twin and one of six siblings. She was preceded in death by her brothers Marion Harris and Ronnie Harris, her twin sister Dean Shipp and her sister Betty Dollins. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Jacob Schuh Jr.
Dot is survived by her sister, Bonnie Thiel of Chowchilla, her three children: Debbie Janssen of Madera, Gary Schuh of Chowchilla and Roger Schuh of Madera. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Dot and Jacob were married in November of 1948 after which Dot embraced the role of homemaker, channeling her energies into her home, her family and her church, the El Nido Missionary Baptist Church of which she was a member her entire adult life. As well as being a mother, wife and homemaker, over the years she taught children’s Sunday school, vacation bible school and worked in the kitchen at summer church camps.
Dot also loved to sing, especially in three- or four-part harmony. She found great joy in singing with her family and extended family members. If you wanted to learn to sing the alto harmony part, all you had to do was sit or stand near her in church. Dot, her daughter Debbie, and Dots’ sister Bonnie, sang as a trio for many years under the name “Family Connection.” Her singing resume’ also included several years singing with the choral group “Sweet Adelines.”
Dot was also blessed with artistic talent. She was an accomplished artist in both oil and watercolor mediums. Not only was she an artist on canvas but also in the kitchen where she was a gifted baker, known for her professional-quality wedding cakes. Over the years she baked, crafted and decorated numerous wedding cakes for friends, family and acquaintances.
The Schuh family invites you to attend the graveside service to honor and celebrate Dot's life, which will take place at 11 o'clock in the morning on the 30th of April, 2024, at the Chowchilla Memorial Cemetery.
A reception in her memory will be held following the service at Cornerstone Community Church in Chowchilla.
As we bid an earthly farewell to our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, we find comfort in knowing that her spirit lives on through the life she shared and the lives she touched, but mostly in the knowledge she has entered the gates of heaven, has been reunited with loved ones and is now in the presence of her Savior.
Through this site, we invite you to view and share cherished photos and videos, share fond memories and expressions of sympathy for the Schuh Family or share the obituary with others via social media and email.
