Salvador Flores Tapia was born December 8, 1922 in the city of Chino and passed away on June 9th, 2012. At the age of 20, he joined the Army Air Force during WWII and was being trained in Florida as a tail gunner for the B-24. After a year he became anxious and volunteered for the Army infantry under General Patton. During his time under Patton he helped in the liberation of France and served in Germany, receiving several medals including the Bronze Star and the French Croix de Guerre. He later joined the U.S. Air Force Reserves and was recognized by the U.S. Government for his contributions during the Korean War.
In 1948 Salvador married Narcissa Chavez from Fontana. They remained married for 41 years until her death in June 8th 1989. He then met Georgina Marcus from Ontario and they remained together until her death.
After 30 years working for the Federal Government, Salvador retired at the age of 50 due to medical reasons. During his career with the government he worked as a Jet Engine Technician working on the C-124 and C-141 at Norton AFB. He also traveled across the United States to missiles sites working as a Missile Technician on the Titian I, Titian II and Atlas missiles.
Salvador enjoyed ship cruises, camping and gambling. As he also said, “I had a good life. I enjoyed my job, had two good women and a loving family.” He leaves behind his 4 children; Lucy Hernandez and husband Hector, Salvador Tapia Jr., Irene Gapido and husband Mike, Robert Tapia, Grandchildren, Monique Hernandez, Kalani-David Gapido, Hector Hernandez Jr., Genevieve Espinosa and her husband Christopher, Isaac Tapia, Corrina Tapia, Daniel Tapia,1 great granddaughter, Serenity Gonzales, his sister Isabel Yepez and brother Andrew Tapia.
