Luz Martinez was born August 18, 1934. The oldest of four daughters to Ignacio and Candelaria Briones of Chino, California. Mrs. Martinez graduated from Chino high school in 1953 where she also played softball.
She married Roberto Martinez November 20, 1954, at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Chino, California. She was his ‘Sunshine’ and he was her ‘Viejo’. Together they raised six children, Ruben, Kathy, George, Nancy, Roberta, and Steve. They were able to watch their children marry and have families of their own. Mrs. Martinez was known as Grandma Lucy by her 9 grandchildren and referred to each of them as ‘Sweethearts’. She also had 11 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Martinez worked over 30 years at boys Republic assembling Della Robbia wreaths. Vacations were spent with the family camping in the mountains.
Many summers were spent in Big Bear at their cabin, sitting on the back porch enjoying the fresh mountain air. She also enjoyed sitting in her front room enjoying the warmth of the sun.
Mrs. Martinez enjoyed tole painting and all her loved ones have her works of art decorating their homes.
She enjoyed supervising tamale making with her children and grandchildren during the holidays and her family loved her flour tortillas. She loved to listen to Mariachi and Elvis Presley, especially while in the kitchen.
Mrs. Martinez was an exceptional wife, a proud mother, and loving grandmother. She cherished spending time with her family and friends she made throughout her life and going on trips to the casino.
While our hearts mourn her loss, we take comfort that her suffering has ended, and she is once again reunited with her beloved husband, Robert, and eldest son Ruben.
Mrs. Martinez also leaves behind numerous family and friends to cherish her memory.
A Visitation Service for Luz will be held Monday, July 29, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Chino, 13002 S. Central Ave, Chino, California 91710. A viewing at church will occur Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 5048 D St, Chino, California 91710. A Rosary Service will occur Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 5048 D St, Chino, California 91710. A Funeral Mass Our Lady of Guadalupe will occur Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 5048 D St, Chino, California 91710. A Graveside Service will occur Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Holy Cross Cemetery, 444 E. Lexington Ave, Pomona, California 91766.
Serving as pallbearers are Steve Martinez, Alan Esquivel, David Velasquez, Mathew Velasquez, Gabriel Lemos, Rommel Novicio, Steven Felix and Daniel Boyack .
