Hoke Presley Karriker passed away at his home on October 17, 2022 at 101 years. He was born on October 17, 1921 and was the son of Shellie B. and Katie Bost Karriker. Hoke was a Christian, living his faith by example. He was a member of St. Enoch Lutheran Church, Kannapolis where he served on the Council, and chair of the Worship and Music Committee. He received recognition for 70 years’ service in the chancel choir. Since 2009, Hoke attended Concordia Lutheran Church, China Grove, the church where he was baptized and sang in the chancel choir for 10 years. He was married to Dorothy Bost Karriker for 63 loving years before her death in 2003.
He was a WWII veteran, serving in The 3rd Army, 94th Division, 376th regiment, 1st battalion, C company, 2nd platoon. Hoke was on the front lines for 120 days. In 2016, Hoke and his children attended a ceremony where he was presented a Quilt of Valor for his service to his country. Hoke was a member of Corriher Grange for 75 consecutive years, serving in many offices. He and Dorothy attended numerous state conventions and enjoyed traveling on bus tours to National Grange conventions across the country. Hoke and Dorothy enjoyed square dancing and were charter members of the Spinning Moors. Hoke tended Karrimont Farm, while working at public work. Hoke and his son raised Percheron draft horses for a number of years. He was employed at the Douglas Aircraft Nike missile plant in Charlotte; Cannon Mills, Kannapolis; and retired from the US Postal Distribution Center, Charlotte.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Ferman Karriker (Barbara) and Johnny Karriker (Renae), daughters, Vinnie Karriker (Philip) Duncan, and Katrina Karriker (Tony) Brown, 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, a brother, Dale Karriker, and many nieces and nephews.
Family members that have preceded him in death are his sisters, Evelyn Ennis and Virginia Sloop and brothers, Hugh Brown Karriker, Paul Leonard Karriker, and Charles Karriker.
The funeral will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church on Saturday, October 22, 2022 with viewing in the sanctuary beginning at 12 noon, with the service at 1 pm with Rev. Ken Reed officiating. Graveside rites with full military honors will follow the services in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the services in the Concordia Family Life Center.
