Mr. Charles Beauford Gainey, age 81 of Salisbury passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 19, 1943 in Darlington South Carolina and was the son of the late James Boyd Gainey and Kathleen Hall Gainey. He was educated in the Darlington schools and was a longtime member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council.
Professionally, he was a truck driver, having driven for Thurston Motor Lines and most recently R&L Motor Lines. When he wasn’t behind the wheel of his truck, he enjoyed talking on his CB radio. He was known by his handle Charlie Brown. Some of his other enjoyments were farming, raising chickens and rabbits. He will be remembered for being a practical jokester, making people laugh and also be remembered for the use of “southern phrases”. He will surely be missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Charles Boyd Gainey and numerous brothers and sisters. Those with cherished memories are his wife of 57 years, Judy Ketner Gainey, daughters Connie Christine Lesslie and spouse Mitchell Lesslie and Katherine Maria Gainey and spouse Madisan Gainey and brothers Tony Gainey, Andy Gainey, Darrell Gainey, Randy Gainey and Dexter Gainey. His sisters are Marlene Misemer, Darlene Dinges, Sally Lowe, Corlais Adams, Eleanor Green
and Marian Rich. Grandchildren include Elizabeth Lesslie and Jessica Williams and great grandchildren are Indigo Lesslie and Anson Williams.
Visitation for Mr Gainey will be on Friday, July 5, 2024 from 10:30 am till 11:45 am at Ebenezer Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall and funeral to follow at 12 noon also in the fellowship hall, with Pastor Lucas Safrit, officiating. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
