“My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning.” Psalm 130:6
It is with sadness that Ted’s children would like to announce that their father passed out of this life on February 25, 2023 at the age of 96 years. Ted was born in Bleiswyk, the Netherlands on August 13, 1926. After returning as a veteran from the war in Indonesia, he married his beloved wife Nellie on January 25, 1951. They set sail for Canada six weeks later in order to begin their married life in Alberta. After 5 years in the rural area surrounding Lethbridge, Alberta, they moved to Chilliwack, B.C. with their three oldest children. They lived in Chilliwack for the remainder of their lives.
Ted is predeceased by his wife Nellie, their baby daughter Nelly Tony, 5 siblings and 19 in-laws.
Ted is survived by his son Andy (Linda), daughters Emily (Neil) Hilliard, Connie Stam, Rita (John) Arnoldussen, and Joanne (Art) Den Bok; 19 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Bert (Jan), Karel (Mary), John (Arlene); 2 sisters, Ada (Bob) Davies and Corrie Stoutjesdyk, sisters-in-law, Clara Stam, Corrie Boesterd, Jackie Stam, and brother-in-law George Eckhardt.
Ted has been very active in business throughout his life, beginning on a farm, a manager of both a chicken hatchery and a chicken processing plant followed by owning a trucking transport business. During this time, he was also a founding member of the East Chilliwack Credit Union now known as the Envision Financial Credit Union. Following retirement, Ted served many years as a deacon in his church, as well as serving on many committees and boards in his church community.
Our heartfelt thanks go to Dr. Epp and the wonderful nurses at the Cascade Hospice who gave such excellent palliative care to our father during his four weeks there. We would also like to thank his family doctor, Dr. Nagdee and his Cardiologist, Dr. deHoney for their faithful care during the last years of his life.
A funeral service will be held for Ted on March 2, 2023 at 11:30am at the Bethel Netherlands Reformed Congregation located on Broadway Ave. in Chilliwack. In lieu of flowers, friends may consider a donation to Sunset Manor or to Timothy Christian School.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.woodlawn-mtcheam.ca for the Stam family.
