Mary, age 96, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at the Valleyhaven Retirement Home in Chilliwack, BC.
Born June 4, 1924 in London England within the sound of the Bow Bells to Alfred and Margaret Booth. She spent her teenage years working in the factories during World War II. She witnessed the Battle of Britain above her while lying on the beach at age 16. Mary married her husband, Ed on July 13, 1946. She came to Canada as a war bride on her own via a ship to Nova Scotia then travelled via rail to Calgary, AB. She raised their young family of 4 ( Bob, Maragaret, Gerald, Rick) there until they moved to Chilliwack in 1961. She worked at the Chilliwack General Hospital for 23 years as a cook in the kitchen. She retired at age 60 and began travelling and enjoying her grandkids. She loved the cruise ships! She loved her family and enjoyed travelling to spend time with everyone over the years. She was an avid walker and walked many miles within Chilliwack with her friends over the years. She was an active member and volunteered with the Legion and Anavets. She spent many Friday and Saturday nights with her friends there enjoying music and dancing. She will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her wittiness and support to her friends.
She leaves behind her 4 cherished children: Bob(Judy), Margaret, Gerald, Rick(Tammy); 5 grandchildren: Denise(Danny), Craig(Monika), Tyler, Dylan(Ashley), and Emiley; 4 great grandchildren: Logan, Alena, Madison and Brett, one brother-Frank and many nieces and nephews.
The family will be holding a private gathering at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Heart and Stroke foundation and The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation. We would like to thank the staff at Valleyhaven Retirement Home for their love and care over the past 3+ years.
