Passed away on September 26th, 2024 at the age of 80. Jay was born on March 24th,1944 at Cottage Hospital in Matsqui BC. He grew up in Matsqui Village through his early years, which was a little piece of heaven for young families. Jay graduated from Abbotsford Senior Secondary School in 1962 and joined the Royal Canadian Air force in late 1962. He was stationed at Namao, Alberta as an Airborn Radar Technician, then returned to Matsqui BC and joined BC Hydro as a Meter Reader in 1967. He attended BCIT Electronics Training at night school to upgrade his Military Training and spent his career at IMR at Kitchener Street, and then Atchelitz Substation until retirement in 2003. From 2003 – 2015 he contracted back to BC Hydro and travelled the province to wherever he was needed.
Jay was actively involved in Abbotsford Minor Sports, as Team Manager, Coach & District 8 Minor Coordinator for Softball BC.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents; Stanley Sorenson 1911-1989, Jose (Tebbutt) Sorenson 1917-1977, sister Joy & sister Leah.
Jay is survived by his spouse; Bonnie (Denis) Sorenson, son Kevin & Nanci, grandchildren Jessica & Jacob, daughter Kirstie & Bruce Hill, grandchildren Thomas, Kian & Nicholas.
With respect to Jay’s wishes, no formal service will be scheduled. As was his pragmatic style, he felt no pageantry required. Those wishing to express condolences and enjoy fellowship in fond memories of Jay’s life are warmly invited to make individual connection by reaching out with messages, calling or arranging to drop in for a visit at a suitable time over the coming weeks.
