Edith Gould

Born October 15, 1925 in Oldham South in the county of Oldham, Wales, Edith was one of 5 children born to John Austin and Annie Edwards (nee Brierley). The Edwards family settled in Winnipeg, MB when they emigrated from Wales, UK to Canada. In 1951, Edith married her life-long husband Charles Richardson (Dick) Gould and soon began her life of work and travel while residing throughout Canada, finally settling in the Fraser Valley, where they retired in 1977.

She was generous with her kind spirit to those in need, both 2 and 4 legged. Rarely without a faithful dog by her side, Edith enjoyed the stunning beauty of the Fraser Valley and west coast of British Columbia. Edith’s love of travel, plus many friendships, gave her a long and healthy life of 96 years. She was joyous and funny in the company of her many friends. We remember her beautiful singing voice and recall stories of emotionally moving audiences with her delivery of “Ave Maria”. She had an aptitude for getting into zany situations that made Lucille Ball look like an amateur. She was vigorously independent, stubborn, thrifty and stoic. Yet she lived her life with dignity and Christian values of modesty, honesty and forgiveness.

Edith will be missed but not forgotten by the many people that she touched throughout her life. Edith is predeceased by her husband, Captain Charles Richardson Gould, her 4 siblings Les Edwards (Margaret), Marie Blachford (Garth), Jeanne Bunney (Don), Dorothy Livingstone (Dave) and her 4-legged companion Chubs. Edith is survived by her son Richard (Chris), daughter Lorrie, grandchildren Alexander (Randi Lynn), Jesse Byman, Matthew (Ashley) and great grandsons Jack and Remy Gould.

The Gould family thank her many friends for their companionship and support. Special thanks to Edith’s church group, the management & staff of Hampton House and Crescent Gardens Senior Residences, nephew Rick Livingstone and Billie Hobkirk for their unfailing support of Edith’s care and best interests.

On September 8, Edith's burial will be held at Chilliwack Cemeteries at 11 a.m. We invite all who knew Edith to a Celebration of Life to be held at Bravo Restaurant (Chilliwack) at 12:30 p.m. following the interment. Please RSVP to richardsongould@gmail.com by September 2.
