Denise Marguerite Pauls

Denise Marguerite Pauls, born Denise Marguerite Wright on May 16, 1941, in New Westminster, BC, passed away on October 31, 2023, at the age of 82 in Chilliwack, BC. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Denise, known to her loved ones as "Mom," was many things, and all of them were memorable. She had a unique sense of humor, always ready with a quick quip and could convey so much with just a raise of her eyebrows. She was goofy, loving, and crazy in the best possible way. Mom had a heart of gold and went out of her way to help strangers, friends, and family. Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds.

One of Mom's talents was her culinary prowess. She was an amazing cook and kept her family well-supplied with delicious desserts from her designated dessert drawer. Her specialties included cinnamon buns, walnut slice, brown cookies, perski, and happy day cake. Mom's desserts brought joy and comfort to everyone lucky enough to taste them.

In addition to her roles as a wife and mother, Denise was also a dedicated caregiver. Later in life, she went back to school at Fraser Valley College to become a Caregiver Aide, showcasing her compassion and dedication to helping others.

Denise is survived by her devoted husband, Abe, and her three children: Suzanne, Liza (Bob Fuenning), and Christine (Kevin Wood). She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Maya, Evan, Tulia, Lilly (Suzanne's), Nicholas, Lana (Liza's) and Alex (Christine's). She was preceded in death by her parents, Denys and Margaret Wright, her brother Gordon Wright, and her grandson, Owen Zucchelli.

Mom's childhood was spent on James Island, BC, just off Vancouver Island near Sydney. She attended a one-room school on the island before taking the ferry every day to Sydney, where she graduated from Mount Newton High School.

Later in life, Denise returned to school at Fraser Valley College to pursue her passion for caregiving.

Abe and Denise were longtime members of Cooke's Presbyterian Church and later spend many Sundays at Sardis Community Church. Their faith was an important part of their lives.

Mom had a passion for collecting recipes and trying them out. She spent most of her free time helping others or visiting seniors. She had a special gift for connecting with seniors and brought comfort and companionship to their lives.

A small memorial service was held on November 2nd at their home, attended by Abe and Denise's closest friends and family. It was an intimate gathering to honor her memory and celebrate her life.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Operation Smile, Children's Hospital, TB Vets, or Chilliwack Cascade Hospice. These organizations held a special place in Abe and Denise's hearts and provided invaluable support during their time of need.

Denise Pauls will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, laughter, and selflessness will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
