He was born in Magyarlak, Hungary on December 10, 1930 and spent his youth there. Prior to his service in the army as a communications expert, he married his sweetheart in October 1950, when he was 20. With the oncoming occupation of the Soviets in Hungary, a decision that changed their lives forever was made. In 1956 they fled Hungary in search of a better future. Arriving in Halifax in 1957, they boarded a CPR train and settled briefly in Victoria. Following up on an opportunity for employment at the local sawmill, they moved to Boston Bar. After a brief stint at the mill, an even better job became available with CN rail where he finished his work career. After retiring from the railway, they moved to Chilliwack for his final years.
His passion for family, fishing, gardening and wine-making is fondly remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth of 66 years, children Elizabeth Nemeth (Arno), Chuck Kovacs (Tracy), four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, his sister Maria and many, many nieces and nephews.
We will miss his mischievous smile and the love he shared with all who came into his life.
