We sadly say goodbye to our Dad and grandpa, Bruno Schroeder. Bruno passed away suddenly on January 4, 2020 in Mission, BC at the age of 79 years. Our Dad was a man of faith, truth, hard work, prayer, perseverance, protection, and provision. Through the years, he was a well-known member of the Abbotsford community through his participation as a youth leader, elder, and businessman. He always had a smile on his face, a hearty handshake, and a witty comment to make. He loved fishing, the serenity of nature, gardening, and family time. We celebrate that he has been released from the Alzheimer’s Disease that impacted his ability to fully embrace the years since our Mom’s passing in 2006. Although he struggled daily with this disease, he was able to maintain his strong character, humor, and his concern for others.
We so appreciate all the many people along this journey who stepped in to care for our Dad. We are especially grateful to his sister Inge (Sutton) and her gracious compassion and care of Dad in taking him into her home, and to all the amazing staff at The Residence in Mission (TRIM).
Bruno is preceded by his wife, Elizabeth Schroeder (nee Hiebert). He is survived by his daughter Sharon (David Hooge), daughter Charlotte (Mark DeBruyn), and son Paul (Deanna Dalziel). Bruno is fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Alyssa (Nik Scott), Jaxson (Abigail Decker), Hope, Josi, Maxwell, and Abbe.
A viewing for family and friends will be held at the Henderson Funeral Home (45901 Victoria Ave, Chilliwack, BC) Friday, January 10, 2020, at 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm.
A memorial service will be held at Main Street Church, 9324 Main Street (enter the church from the rear door at Princess Ave., Chilliwack, BC, where parking is free [we are Mennonite]) Saturday, January 11, 2020, at 1:00 pm. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Alzheimer’s Society British Columbia (Alzheimer.ca) in memory of Bruno Schroeder.
