One of four children born to the late Norm & Leon Watmough. Barry was born in Tillsonburg Ontario and grew up on a small farm in Putnam Ontario. Barry had fond memories of going fishing, hunting and growing up on the family farm with his parents and siblings. After marrying the love of his life Kathleen Jesse (Ross) Watmough and finishing his electrical apprenticeship they moved to BC in 1966. Barry & Kathy lived for a short time in Abbotsford where they met Lynn & Larry Weymouth who would become life long friends and God Parents to their two boys Marc & Chad. They soon settled in the Chilliwack area. Barry worked for one year for CFB Chilliwack as an electrician prior to starting his career with M. Dickey and Son’s Electric. Barry's boss Vern Dickey would become a life time friend, mentor, and father figure to Barry & Kathey. After Vern was diagnosed with cancer Vern asked Barry to buy the company. Before Vern passed away he asked Barry to apply for his spot on hall 4 of the Chilliwack Fire Department. Barry joined the fire department in 1984 and later became the Chief of hall 4 in 1997 till he retired in 2009. Barry enjoyed his time coaching his two sons and their friends for many years in Chilliwack Minor Baseball. Barry sold his company and retired in 2010 to care for his wife Kathy after she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. Barry enjoyed fishing with his two sons and best friend Larry Weymouth. Barry was a proud member of the Road Iron Car Club in Chilliwack and could be fond with his 1940 Ford Coupe at the Thursday night hang around at Kal Tire and supporting the numerous local car shows. Barry & Kathy opened their home for many years to international students from the Chilliwack School District. Barry and Kathy were proud to welcome these kids into their family and many of the kids that lived with them over the years still have a key to the family home. Barry will be greatly missed by his two sons, extended family, international kids and friends.
Barry is survived by his two sons Marc & Chad, sister in law Betty Watmough and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife Kathy, parents Norman & Leone Watmough, brother Robert Watmough, sisters Marilyn (Harry) Granger, and Betty (Gerald) Barber.
The family would like to thank Dr. Markey & Dr. Wolf of the Young Clinic, the Chilliwack and Abbotsford Hospital staff as well as all the friends who have shown their love and support.
