Audrey was born in London, England in 1923. During World War II, when Audrey was just 17 years old, she joined the Royal Air Force in England to serve her country. She came to Canada in 1951 to start a new life with her husband Jim McLean. They settled in Whitehorse, Yukon where she worked for the Whitehorse Star. They moved to Prince George before settling in Chilliwack in 1959 where they raised their 4 daughters Mavis, Arlene, Linda-Lee and Valerie.
Audrey was a proud homemaker, loved her family, her artwork, reading, animals, music, theatre, knitting, gardening, cooking and travel. She loved all things English and was a firm supporter of the British monarchy. She had a sharp mind and knew a lot about history, kept up with current affairs and seemed to know all the answers on Jeopardy.
Audrey's husband Jim passed away in 1980 and she married David Hohn in 1985. Audrey and Dave loved to travel to Britain and Europe and loved to spend time with family. They purchased seasons passes every year to Minter Gardens and spent many hours wandering slowly through the beautiful gardens. Audrey's favorite was the rose garden, where she would stop and sit on the bench to enjoy.
Audrey was a volunteer for the Salvation Army in Chilliwack, including The League of Mercy and working on the kettles. Audrey and her friend Edith were the first to serve soup for the Soup Kitchen in Chilliwack. She belonged to Home League and Time Out for many years.
Audrey will be missed very much and will be remembered as a fun, energetic, caring, gentle, supportive, loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Audrey is survived by daughters Mavis (Richard), Arlene, Linda-Lee and Valerie; 19 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, 3 step grandchildren and relatives in England and Wales.
Audrey is predeceased by her parents William and Matilda Ames; brothers and sisters William, Leslie, Violet, Gladys and Elsie; husbands Jim McLean and David Hohn; and great grandchild Imogen.
At Audrey's request there will not be a service. Donations to the Salvation Army would be greatly appreciated in Audrey's memory.
