Alfred Engelbrecht was the youngest child of Augusta and Ewald Engelbrecht. He was born January 27th, 1944 in what was then Russia.
In May of 1948, the Engelbrecht family immigrated to Canada. Alfred, who was four years old at the time, enjoyed growing up in Chilliwack BC on his parents' farm.
During his teenage years Alfred worked in a variety of jobs. He later began his career in the auto industry. In the mid 1960´s Alfred moved to Vernon, BC where he met his wife Emma Schimann. They were married on September 26th, 1970 and lived in Vernon, BC for the first ten years of their marriage. While living in Vernon Alfred and Emma had three children, Stanley, Darryl and Tanya. Alfred and his family were an active part of the Church of God. In 1980 he and his family moved to Chilliwack, BC where he remained for the rest of his life.
In October of 2011, Alfred began suffering from extreme back pain and was diagnosed with cancer. He was repeatedly hospitalized, undergoing various treatments, which unfortunately weakened his body. Throughout this time of his life his faith gave him strength. While his spirit was strong, his body could not endure the strain.
Alfred is survived by his wife of 41 years, Emma; his children Stan (Carly), Darryl (Rachel), Tanya (Sven); his grandchildren Kate, Genevieve, Tess, James, Liam, Elena, and Julia; his brother Herb (Ingrid) and sister-in-law Dina, along with many nephews and nieces. Alfred was known for his sense of humor and outgoing nature. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
