Ruth M. Litvak was born on February 2, 1921 in Brooklyn, New York and passed away February 6, 2013 in Chicago. Beloved wife of the late Henry Litvak; loving mother of Matthew M. Litvak (Marija Ostojic); cherished grandmother of Maksim and Lara Ostojic Litvak; devoted daughter of the late Angelo and Rosa Marzano; dearest sister of the late Mary Marzano, Aurora Latella and Eleanor Botallico. Ruth was a 1939 graduate of Utrecht High School and a 1942 graduate of Hunter College, both in New York. She worked briefly on Wall Street for Merrill Lynch as a brokerage clerk before traveling to Chicago in 1944 to begin a graduate degree program at the University of Chicago, where she earned a master’s degree in Anthropology in 1947 and a PhD in Biology in 1958. She worked as a professor at Northwestern University Dental School from 1958 - 1962 and then at Truman College from 1962 – 1994 where she was a professor of Biology, Chemistry and Anatomy. Mrs. Litvak was honored to be able to serve as a member of the Harbor Point Condominium Association Board of Directors for over 33 years and she also owned and managed an apartment building. She enjoyed spending time on her farm in Woodstock, IL, and sharing the produce and flowers from her gardens with her friends. Visitation will be held Saturday, February 16th from 9 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at Drake & Son Funeral Home, 5303 N. Western Ave., Chicago. Interment Rosehill Cemetery.
