Romulo V. Ronquillo, 78, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He was born on July 23, 1942 in Candon, Ilocos Sur, Philippines to his loving parents, the late Atanacio Ronquillo and Ceferina Valdez. He married his beloved wife, Gloria Dichoso on May 11, 1970. Beloved brother to Nieves and Nellie Ronquillo, and adoring brother to his deceased siblings, Fe Abano, Cesar and Manuel Ronquillo. He was an adoring father to his daughter Gerri and son-in-law Richard Wong, and cherished grandfather to twins Ryan and Alexa, and Maxwell Wong. Loving uncle to Edward and Emmylou Ronquillo, Grace and Joe Agnello, Anthony and Karen Abano, Michelle and Scott Ovrevik, and Karen and Jesse Javier.
He graduated from National University in Manila, Philippines and became an elementary school math teacher in the Philippines. In 1970, he immigrated to the United States, and attended Malcolm X College. After his studies he became a respiratory therapist and had a thirty year career the Veteran’s Administration (VA) Hospital. In his spare time he loved fishing/crabbing, walking with his wife, cooking, spending time with family. He was a source of strength to his siblings and advisor to his nieces and nephews. He opened his heart to strangers and brought them in as part of his family. He is happiest taking care of his three grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2021 from 1-8pm at Malec and Sons Funeral Home, 6000 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago IL 60646. Closing Prayers will be held at the funeral home on Friday July 23, 2021 at 9am before moving to St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Church, 6040 W Ardmore, Chicago IL 60646 for Mass of Christian Burial at 10am.
