Rita was born on May 22, 1936 in San Antonio Texas to Manuel L. Martinez and Antonia Hernandez Martinez. She was the second oldest of five daughters. Her sisters are Mary (Robert), the late Juanita (Carlos), Elydia (the late George) and Angela (the late Jesse).
Rita at 4’11” was very active in her youth. She loved playing volleyball and softball. In earlier years the family would, get together to have picnics in forest preserves and would always end in a good rivalry softball game. She loved to play poker with her sisters and their spouses. In her later years, she would spend much of her time doing puzzles. She became the most devoted Cubs fan!! She was beyond happy the day they won the World Series! Go Cubbies!!
More important than her Cubbies was her family. Her heart grew more with each addition of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was mother to the late Manuel (the late Diane), Yolanda (Alex), Ricardo Santiago, and Laura. Her grandchildren are Yvonne, Manuel Antonio, Albert, Gilberto (Edna) and Rebecca. Her great-grandchildren are Mateo, Sabato, Eva, Dominic, Orlando, and her recent great-granddaughter, Emma.
A visitation will be held at Drake and Son Funeral Home, on Sunday, September 13, 2020 from 3-9pm. Funeral Service will be conducted at Drake and Son Funeral Home, the following day, Monday, September 14, 2020 at 11am. Interment to follow at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, Hillside.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to the American Lung Association.
In consideration of the safety of all our guests and associates, Drake and Son Funeral Home will adhere to the current gathering restrictions in the state of Illinois, which allows 50 or fewer guests at services.
