Phillip Luu, age 78, of Chicago passed away on April 12, 2022. Born in China, to the late Khin Lau and Shie Vong. Husband of the late Nancy Luu. Father of Luong Quesea, Hung Luu, Linh Johnston. Grandfather of Gunner, Jaxon, Penelope, Taylor, and Michael Phillip.
Phillip loved spending time with family and friends and especially later in his life helping to care for his grandchildren’s.
Phillip is a veteran of the Vietnam War where he served 12 years in the Army. Though the family left the country post war, he would recall and share many stories and many fond memories of his time as a child, teen, member of the armed force services and helping evaluation of refugees immediately after the end of conflict.
He would return several more times to the country postwar and witness reconstruction of the country. An avid foodie, he would give his strong opinion on Chinese and South East Asian cuisine.
He also enjoyed the Chicago sports scene, very passionate about football especially the Bears and follow either Chicago baseball team. He would keep everyone up to date on the latest sporting news and events.
Phillip will be dearly missed by everyone he knew.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Drake & Son Funeral Home, 5303 North Western Ave, Chicago, IL 60625. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, April 20, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Drake & Son Funeral Home.
