Jeannie, So sorry to hear of your husband, Pete's passing.  Pete, I thank you for giving me the opportunity to come to Immaculate Conception H.S. in 1966 and introduce me to Elmhurst and Illinois.  One year later you resigned and went to St. Pat's in Chicago as Athletic Director and recommended me to become IC's AD.  I forever thank you.  You were a great coach, Athletic Director, husband, father, grand father, great-grand father and great leader/friend to many. Never to be forgotten.  Thanks, Pete.  RIP. My sincere condolences to the entire Schmit family.  Pete gave me my first job when he hired me at Immaculate Conception High School in Elmhurst.  He was a good mentor and helped me in many ways.  He was a good man and I will always remember my time working for him at I.C.

I played football and basketball for Coach Schmit at St George.  He was a great coach and teacher and even a better gentleman and human being. He will be missed but never forgotten.  So many fond memories of those days!  RIP coach.

Coach Schmit..I'll always remember how you advised and kept me on the straight and narrow path at St. George..great, great years..riding home from practices in that sleek black Pontiac..learning how to drive, and talking football amd basketball..Looking back, i guess you did become my "father figure" in my teens, and it did help...I could go on and on..but want you to know, I appreciate everything you did for me....Hope all the Dragons are welcoming you into the gates of heaven..You will be missed..and the fun paties and sing-alongs in your basement with your kids and ours...super fun...Your      brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dan and   Liz Lyman...

To the entire Schmit Family, I am so sorry for your loss. I have many fond memories growing up with Sue, whom my parents adored by the way, and of both Mr. & Mrs. Schmit. I had so much fun as a kid when Mr. Schmit would take my twin & I along with Sue to Saint Pat's so we could swim in the pool for a while well he had some work to do there. It was just great fun. I also attended a few basketball games with Sue over at Saint Pat's which was always fun to watch. Thanks' also for allowing my Sister & I to have all the sleepovers with Sue at your house when we were kids. We had a blast. One more memory I have is when you let me borrow your car for my first drivers license road test. You were a brave man. You were a very good man and thanks' for all these memories and so many more. RIP Mr. Schmit. God bless the Schmit Family through this time.

He was my Dad's gym coach at St. George and the athletic director at St. Pats when I was there. He was a man of many great achievments setting an example of responsibility and dedication that inspired tens of thousands of young men.

I am Robert Steiner. Unfortunately, I never had a chance to meet Mr. Schmit personally, but I worked for many years with one of his daughters, Kathy (Yaksich). Her character and personality gave me an indirect indication of what a wonderful person her father must had been.

I knew Coach Pete Schmit on and off the football field and basketball court.  He cared about his family and his St. George school family.  He will be missed.

My sincere condolences for the loss of Peter Schmit. Pete was a fine, Christian gentleman who represented Saint Patrick High School and Saint George High School very well indeed. We were colleagues at Saint Patrick High School from my assignment there in 1974 until 1994 when I was assigned to Rome. We stayed in touch through Christmas greetings each year. May he rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to you and your family.  I am thinking of you,

As the Saint George Annual Alumni Banquet chair for double-digit years, I would always send Peter a complimentary meal ticket.  He would frequently call and thank me for remembering him.
In the spring of 1974, I technically directed the "Guys and Dolls" musical at Saint Patrick's.  I needed a turntable partition wall board plastered.  Much to my amazement, Peter volunteered to assist, calling the job "a piece of cake," with his summers-past, wallboarding work his base.
As a colleague at Saint Patrick's and as an appreciative friend since his Shamrock retirement, I'll really miss Peter.
