Lawrence David Chase, aka “Bunch” to his wife and “Larry” to most others passed away on Monday January 9th of Cholangiocarcinoma. He is survived by his wife Eva Chase and sister Laura Chase. He was preceded in death by his parents: father Milton Chase, Jr., stepmother, Patricia Chase and mother Judith Chase.
Larry joined the navy at 18 and was very proud to have served on the U.S.S. Iwo Jima. He always recounted fond memories of that time and the friends he made. After being stationed at Great Lakes Naval Base in Waukegan IL, he started his own company called The Paper Chase and in 1987 was how he met Eva, marrying in 1993.
Larry had many varied interests and hobbies, including gardening, woodworking (building two beautiful built-ins in their home), music, (including an extensive vinyl collection), traveling, cooking, and posting a photo of every meal online for everyone to see. And, of course, he was a HUGE Green Bay Packer fan. Always watching the games in the Garage Mahal, Larry proudly and unabashedly flew the Packer flag in front of his home in the middle of Chicago Bear country.
A life-long animal lover Larry was lucky enough to have had many wonderful dogs and cats over the years; most recently, (the “girls”, Cocoa, Patty and Taylor) adopted from the Garrido Stray Rescue Foundation.
Larry would, and did, talk to everyone, becoming the unofficial “mayor” of the community. With his booming voice, he recounted long stories to anyone who would listen, usually in the Garage Mahal, where all were welcome, and the beer fridge was always stocked. Larry will be missed more than we can possibly imagine, but his memory will put a smile on our faces as we raise a glass and proclaim his favorite toast, “Cheers, “Friends”.
