Joseph M Marek

MAREK, Joseph M., passed away on June 13th at the age of 65 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph M. and Irene A. Marek and is survived by his sister Trish McKay (John) of Tampa, FL.; Aunts Florence Rozan of Sarasota, FL, Helen Prisbe of Chicago, and Jean “Pat” Marek of Chicago; niece Jamie Bogdan (Andrew) of Tampa, FL; great nephew Alexander Bogdan of Tampa, FL; and many first and second cousins.

Joe was born and raised in Chicago and was a 1975 graduate of Weber High School. He was a lifelong resident and truly loved the city that he called home. Joe spent the last 35 years employed by the Daily Herald, won the Circulation Excellence Award in 2002 and his most recent position was Retail & Telemarketing Sales Manager before retiring in 2022.

Joe will always be remembered as friendly, outgoing, and sociable and someone who possessed the natural ability to make friends instantly with just about everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by many friends, family, and co-workers. Joe was an avid bowler and fisherman and enjoyed many years fishing with his friends in the lakes of Illinois and Wisconsin. Most people will remember Joe for his incredible knowledge of sports trivia and that he was such a dedicated fan of all Chicago teams - especially the Bears, Blackhawks, and Cubs.

The family would like to thank all the many friends and family members who were so supportive over the past year, especially cousin Barbara Snow and close friends Jim Mulhern and Wayne Gebis who’s love, support and friendship throughout Joe’s illness meant so much to him and was greatly appreciated.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 28th at Montclair Lucania Funeral Home at 6901 W. Belmont Ave. beginning with visitation at 9:00 AM, a Memorial Service at 10:00 AM followed immediately by burial at Mary Hill Cemetery at 8600 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Niles, IL.
