Irene Galanes was born on December 28, 1933 in Chicago, IL. Irene was the beloved wife of Lambro for 59 years. She was the dear daughter of Anna and Basil Gianopulos, a dear sister to John, Harold, Joyce (Stanton) and Despe (Sterious).
Irene was employed by Bauer and Black Co, and she enjoyed her job. Most recently she worked at her son’s dental practice.
Irene was a loving mother, and she and dad raised five children; George (Linda), Bill, Janet, Tina and Anne (Frank Rossi).
She was also a loving grandmother to 10 grandchildren; Emily, Katie, Nicole (Hartwig), Jordan (Hartwig), Jason (Hartwig), Rachel (Hartwig), Sarah (Hartwig), Joey (Rossi), James (Rossi) and John (Rossi), and loving great grandmother to Keira Farias.
Irene was active in sports, especially softball, and was recruited by the Women’s Professional Baseball League. She was also a devoted White Sox fan until death. The highlight for mother was when the Chicago White Sox won the 2005 World Series Championship.
She was an active member of Northwest Church of God in Chicago, and lived her life in unwavering faith to our Lord, Jesus Christ. Her favorite bible passage was Isaiah 40:31; ‘They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary…’. Irene touched the lives of many she came in contact with on a daily basis. She will be missed.
Visitation will be held Sunday 2-8 PM at Montclair-Lucania Funeral Home, 6901 W. Belmont Avenue, Chicago. Funeral service Monday 11 AM at Northwest Church of God, 6333 W Belmont Avenue, Chicago. Interment Elmwood Cemetery.
