Survived by his loving wife Adrienne Kay Bensen of 67 years. Lovingly remembered by his children Cynthia Kay (Howard) Green, Nicolas Edward (Geri Dawn), and Chris Gregg.
He spent his career working as a printer for various print shops in Chicago including A1 Composition; he also worked for Romano Bros Beverages until his retirement.
Ed and Adrienne shared many summers vacationing in Wisconsin, with some of their favorite spots being Lac du Flambeau, Minocqua and Holy Hill.
Some of Ed’s hobbies included fishing, gardening, watching the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Blackhawks, and (to his son’s dismay) the Green Bay Packers. He also enjoyed attending the annual Syttende Mai festival in downtown Park Ridge to celebrate his Norwegian heritage, and he loved spending time with his wife (which he would say was his favorite pastime)!
Edward Bensen was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He served from 1951 – 1959 on the USS Coral Sea Aircraft Carrier as a boatswain during the Korean War. His time in the service allowed him to see the world and provided him with many experiences that he fondly spoke of his entire life.
Ed was extremely proud of his many years as Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 396, where he had a positive influence on the young lives of many boys in the North Austin neighborhood of Chicago. He was awarded the Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow, which is the highest honor in the service arm of the Boy Scouts of America.
Ed will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
