Cecylia and her brother, John, endured unimaginable hardships during World War II, being forcibly displaced from Poland to Siberia and later to Africa and India to avoid Hitler’s reign of terror. Their strength carried them back to their mother and uncle in England, where she married her beloved husband, Tadeusz Ropa. Together, they built a beautiful family and eventually emigrated to the United States by boat, settling in Chicago in pursuit of the American Dream.
Cecylia’s determination and work ethic were unmatched. She became a naturalized U.S. citizen and rose to become the Head of Accounting for the Chicago Transit Authority, where she dedicated 26 years of service. Her career achievements reflected her unwavering perseverance and dedication.
Known for her love of gardening, Cecylia found joy in tending to her backyard, creating a haven of beauty and peace. Above all, she was best remembered for her immense love for her family. Her unwavering devotion and selflessness shone most brightly when, after losing a daughter with young children, she stepped in without hesitation to raise and care for them, embodying strength and grace in the face of adversity.
Cecylia was predeceased by her husband, Tadeusz, to whom she was married for 53 years; her daughter, Janina; and her brother, Ted. She is lovingly remembered by her brother, John; her sister, Irene; her daughters, Wanda and [Barbara her grandchildren Taylor, Angela, Nikolas, Bruce, Gina, and Michael; her great-grandchildren Brayden, Mila, Aubriana, Remington, Tiberius, Athena, Marcus, and Zander; and many extended family members and friends.
Cecylia’s legacy of love, strength, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A visitation for Cecylia will be held Thursday, December 12, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Malec & Sons Funeral Home, 6000 North Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60646. Prayers that night will be at 7:00pm. A funeral mass will occur Friday, December 13, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Constance Catholic Church, 5843 W Strong St, Chicago, IL 60630.
