Andrew served his country in the United States Army and also served the public as a member of the Chicago Police Department for 33 years, where he worked Patrol, as an Evidence Technician, in the Crime Lab, then ultimately retiring as Sergeant in April of 1999. He enjoyed his retirement spending time with his puppies, and you could often find him working a crossword puzzle (in PEN!), reading one of his many books, or watching historical documentaries.
Andrew is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years Maureen (nee Hankins) Brooks, his loving children Jonathan Brooks and Julie (Janet) West, his adoring grandchildren Kirsten Brooks, Katarina (Edward) Granado, Kara Brooks, and his great grandson Cade, and many loving extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings Jettie Poteat and Harry Brooks.
Friends and family will gather for a visitation for Andrew that will be held on Saturday, November 4th, 2023 from 9:30 AM – 12 PM at Drake and Son Funeral Home, 5303 North Western Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60625. A short St. Jude Service will be held at 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held at 12pm with a burial to follow at Graceland Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois.
