Funeral services for John D. Rothlisberger, 72, of Russell Township, will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Mayfield United Methodist Church, 7747 Mayfield Road, Chester Township, with a reception at the church to follow.
Mr. Rothlisberger passed away May 24, 2013, at The Weils Rehabilitation Pavilion in Bainbridge Township.
Born Jan. 4, 1941, in Mt. Blanchard, he had been a Russell Township resident for 46 years.
John played quarterback for and attended Bluffton College. He was the most kind, loving and gentle man. John had an amazing smile that lit up the room, and he made each and every person he came in contact with feel like they were the most important person in the world. He was a man with a positive attitude and a hard work ethic. John's sense of humor had everyone laughing, even after they said their goodbyes.
John was a teacher at Chardon High School for four years, and a teacher at Shaker Heights Middle School for 32 years.
Survivors are his wife of 50 years, Pamela (nee Berry); sons, Randy (Sharon) and Tim (Ginenne); daughter, Renee (Jeff) Lance; grandchildren, Allison, Jacob, Jenna, Shane, Evan and Lauren; and brothers, Frederick (Mary), Eric (Nancy), and Dennis (Carol).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Madge (nee Hickle) Rothlisberger.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Private interment will be at a later date in Riverview Cemetery in Russell Township.
