Mr. Sutton was a member of East Ridge Church of Christ and a veteran of the United States Marine Corp serving in the beginning of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion and the Choo Choo Chevy Club where he was known for his outstanding ability to restore a car from the ground up. He received the First Place National Award which gained him recognition in the Choo Choo Chevy Magazine. Mr. Sutton was retired from DuPont after 33 years of service and for the last 25 years, he was an avid antique dealer.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Stella B. Sutton; son, Hugh Dean (Nikki) Sutton of Humble, Texas; daughter, Jennifer (Shane) Vaughn of Newnan, Georgia; grandsons, William O’Conner Sutton and Jacob Riley Sutton of Humble, Texas; brother, Frank (Lila) Sutton of Birmingham, Alabama; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Don) Dilbeck of Ducktown, Tennessee, Susie Wilson of Jasper, Tennessee, Janie (Ed) Troxell of Bridgeport, Alabama, and Dorothy Mae (Wayne) Richey of Flat Rock, Alabama; brother-in-law, Sam (Patsy) Poe of Chattanooga; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the in the funeral home chapel with Minister Charles Cochran officiating.
Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 18, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
