Bill was born in Jonesville, Virginia and raised in Portsmouth, VA. He served in the US Navy from 1962 – 1969, and was a Navy Seal from 1968 – 1969. He was previously employed at Hughes Aircraft, Oakridge Nuclear facility and Combustion Engineering. He was most recently the owner/operator of Advance Service Equipment Restaurant Repair in Chattanooga. He was also a member of Shelter Church.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia “Ginny” Smith; daughters, Cheryl Smith Stasney and Kathleen Marie Smith; grandchildren, Chelsie, Meagan and Maddie; siblings, Saluda (Ray) Stapleton, James (Barbara) Smith and Sharon (Ross) Dickmon.
Visitation will be from 11 AM to 1 PM on Monday, January 28th at the funeral home.
A Graveside Committal Service will follow at 2 PM on Monday at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Brother Monty Reeves and Pastor Sterling Jetton officiating and full military honors.
