Born on October 3, 1932 in Chattanooga, he graduated from Chattanooga High School and received a Bachelor's degree at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga.
William worked in Chemistry for Lockheed - Martin, The TNT plant, and retired from the State of Tennessee Air Pollution Control.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Clifford Hightower Layton and Bonnie Belle Layton.
Survivors include his sister, Kaye Hixon, nieces Krissy Llewellyn (Richard) and Stacie Allred (Steve). He has six great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00pm Thursday, December 9, 2021, with Pastor and friend Ronnie Sells officiating. The family will receive friends at Chattanooga Funeral Home East Brainerd Thursday from 10am until the service begins.
