Shirley was born in Norfolk, VA and later lived in Florida, and Chattanooga. She was a member of Brainerd United Methodist Church; Shirley served as church secretary for Trinity Woodmore Methodist Church and served as a lay minister. She knitted scarves and lap covers for the homeless and Orange Grove.
Shirley was preceded in death by her son William L. Mathis and parents J.B. Wood and Gladys Viola Morris wood.
Shirley is survived by her daughter-in-law Jacqueline Mathis; seven grandchildren, William Christian Zehner, David Blaine Mathis, Byron Patrick Mathis, Autumn Gretchen Mathis, Tiffany Gail Dempsey, Amber Brittany Mathis and Anthony Wilson Mathis. Five great-grandchildren Julia Mathis, Gabriel Mathis, Elijah Scealf, Cole Woods and Levi Mathis.
Visitation on Wednesday, June 19 from 9 – 11 am
Funeral service to follow at 11 am in the funeral home chapel.
