Raymond Byrd, 80, of Chattanooga, TN, passed away Monday, February 3, 2020. A lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, he was a member of the Catoosa Baptist Tabernacle. He was a former employee of the City of Chattanooga for 15 years, in Parks & Recreation and was retired from the City of East Ridge Parks & Recreation. He built the ballfields and opened Montague Park in Chattanooga and also at Camp Jordan in East Ridge.
He was preceded in death by his wife Carlene Byrd; daughter, Deborah Slavens; two grandsons, Christopher Byrd and Jonathan Byrd; brother, David Byrd.
Survivors include his daughter, Tammy Holder; sons, Edward (Joyce) Byrd and Michael Byrd; brothers, Wayne (Tammy) Byrd and Charles (Carol) Byrd; sister, Judy Wilbanks; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Valley View Chapel. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 7414 Old Lee Highway.
