He was born on July 17, 1922 in Gloversville New York, and joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 where he earned his wings and flew P51 fighters. He attained the rank of 1st lieutenant. Tom married his beloved wife H. Marie Harris on December 29, 1946. A graduate of the University of Nebraska in 1949, Tom had a successful career with the Federal Government, including working for the Interstate Commerce Commission, and acting as the Deputy Director of the Federal Maritime Commission. After working for the American Trucking Association, Tom retired and moved to Edenton, North Carolina in 1985, a place he loved dearly. He ran a successful gunsmith business for many years. In 2005, Tom and his wife moved to Ooltewah, Tennessee.
Tom was an avid supporter of the NRA, and an active member of Kiwanis and the American Legion.
Survivors include: Wife H. Marie Harris of Ooltewah; Daughter Jane Harris Day (Jon Day) of Sarasota, Florida; sons, William (Cheryl) Harris of Ooltewah; Thomas (Bethany) Harris of Panama City, Florida; David (Cindy) Harris of North Port, Florida; Dan (Rochelle) Harris of Alexandria, Virginia; Grandchildren Ryan and Scott Day; Christopher and Timothy Harris; April Ayala; and Brandon & Christopher Harris. Tom also had three great grandsons; Jacob Madrigal, Joshua Ayala and Theodore Day.
