He was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to the late Manoel and Ida Lopes and was preceded in death by a grandson, John Andrew Lopes and two brothers, Jose and Emmanuel Lopes.
John served in the Brazilian Army prior to moving to the US in 1952. He was an avid fisherman and retired as a dental technician.
He was a member of Ooltewah Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Survivors include his loving wife, Mary D’Alva Lopes, of Chattanooga, TN, three children, Ida Hinck (Daniel), of Higdon, AL, Linda Elliott, of Dayton, TN, Bryan Lopes (Christina), of Ooltewah, TN, seven grandchildren, Avionne, Timothy, Danida, Kimberly, Christopher, Geoffrey, Emily, and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, September 17, 2021, at the Ooltewah Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor Peter Kulakov officiating. Interment will follow in Collegedale Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., Friday, September 17, 2021, at the church.
