James O. “Jim” Lovell, 92, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully March 21, 2015. He was born November 16, 1922, to Oscar and Ethel (Poe) Lovell of Ooltewah, TN.
Upon graduation from High School, Jim was inducted into the U. S. Army and attached to the Marine Corps. He joined 4 other brothers already in military service during World War II. Jim’s service decorations include: World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, AP Theater Ribbon and Two Bronze Service Stars. Battles and Campaigns include: Western Pacific Ground Combat Iwo Jima, and Angaur Island.
In 1959 Jim opened one of the first luxury custom cabinet shops in Chattanooga. For 54 years he delighted builders and customers with beautiful and creative kitchen and bath designs.
He is preceded in death by 7 brothers, 4 sisters and his daughter-in-law, Vickie Lovell.
Jim married Irene Miller of Borden Springs, Alabama on July 3, 1947. He is survived by wife-Irene, son-James Lamar Lovell, daughter-Jan & husband-Don Grant, Graysville, GA., sister-Nell Bean of Franklin, TN., grandson-Chad Young, Chattanooga and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday at Chattanooga Funeral Home-Valley View Chapel, Old Lee Highway, Chattanooga. Burial immediately following at Collegedale Memorial Park, Collegedale, TN. The family will meet friends from 12:00-2:00 pm, Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home.
