He was a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, TN. In his earlier years, he was an active member of the Jaycees.
Jim was a joy to be around with his great sense of humor and all the stories he would tell. He never met a stranger, and he loved talking and meeting new people. He was a wonderful husband, father, and brother. He was also a loyal and true friend. One of his favorite things to do was watch dirt track and Nascar Racing. He enjoyed following his favorite late car driver Dale McDowell with Shane McDowell Racing. He was a long-time fan of Dale Earnhardt and later Austin and Ty Dillon. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father James H Copenhaver of Virginia, his mother Margaret Payne Radler of Florida, and his sister Sallie Payne Copenhaver of Virginia.
He is survived by his spouse, Laverne Boring Copenhaver, his son James “Jayme” Copenhaver III and wife Danielle, and his sister, Charlotte Copenhaver Ryan of Yorktown, Virginia. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 19, 2017, in the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Martin officiating. A graveside committal service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, September 21, 2017, at New McDonald Cemetery in Ooltewah, TN.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at the funeral home.
