Emily was born on July 15, 1939 to Roscoe Clinton and Hassie Mae Runyon in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Emily spent her entire life in Chattanooga having been baptized and growing up at Lupton Drive Baptist Church. Later in life, she became a faithful Soldier of the Salvation Army Chattanooga Citadel and raised her children attending The Salvation Army.
Emily served faithfully for many years as the store manager at The Salvation Army store once located on McCallie Avenue. Countless people were shown the Good News of Jesus by Emily in word and in deed. All who came in contact with her knew her loving, serving Spirit.
Emily was most proud of her three children, David Thomas of Chattanooga, Scott Thomas of Chickamauga, Georgia and Connie Barrington of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and her five grandchildren, Mckenzi Thomas of Nashville, Tennessee and Anthony, Ella, Talitha and Wesley Barrington of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Noah and Nick Green of Chickamauga, Georgia.
Emily was preceded in death by her loving parents and her husband Franklin Lawson.
The family will receive friends Monday, June 6, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at the East Brainerd Chapel.
